The Trip and Organisation

The trip route was worked out by us 12 months before we went and some minor hotel changes made during the last few month.
Our UK flights were booked directly to Bangkok but all other flights were booked by the ground handler.
Most of our research was done using (as usual) Lonely Planet "Thorn Tree" and making contact with many people who have done the trips and or been to the hotels.
We used EXO Travel (formally Exotissimo) to organised all of the hotels, internal flights and various excursions.
Their expertise was required to ensure that our routes and flights dovetailed correctly and their involvement was invaluable ensuring that nothing went wrong on our trip.
This company is based in Thailand but have offices in Cambodia and Vietnam and they deal directly with UK individuals.  This is the company that UK travel companies use so the price is much better.
Without exception, the guides and drivers were first class and we would recommend the us of this company.

The use of a local ground handler was important as aviation timetable reliability is poor and especially in Myanmar where there are 8 days in a week and the flight time table seemed to be vary random.

Most of our travel was by using a guide and driver basis in all the countries.  Whilst we felt this was the best way of learning local knowledge, a large proportion of our trip was closed to independent travelers especially in Burma where there is currently no possibility for independent travel.
